Antony Hopkins describes the humble origins of the waltz and how one of its main attractions was that it enabled a young man to get near the girl of his fancy without being under the beady eye of a chaperone.
He plays some of his favourite waltzes by Johann Strauss. Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Sir Arthur Sullivan , and gives his own rendering on the piano of some melodies by Schubert and Brahms.
