6/7. The big day finally dawns and it looks set to be one that Howard and Mel will never forget.
Sitcom: The Worst Week of My Life 9.00pm BBC1
Things only get worse on the penultimate day of hapless Howard's disastrous week. Today is Saturday, the wedding day. We know by now that Howard (Ben Miller) has put his fiancee's granny in hospital following a prank with a banister that went terribly wrong, and that the best man is completely out of the picture after a stag-night incident. He's been replaced by the hopeless Dom, who's a mess.
"I've got Screaming Lord Sutch as my best man," Howard groans when he catches sight of Dom's unconventional wedding attire.
Not that Howard is the picture of sartorial elegance, thanks to a mix-up with the suits. But as the day wears on, this is the very least of his worries, as he has a bruising encounter with barking mad Uncle Fraser (the marvellous Ronald Pickup), and deals with his increasingly frantic, turbot-obsessed mother-in-law-to-be (the great Alison Steadman). And as for his future bride, Mel... well, let's just say that the happiest day of her life seems a long, long way off.
There's nothing terribly new about any of these situations, but The Worst Week of My Life manages to put a fresh spin on wedding disasters with some great writing and a truly excellent cast. (Alison Graham)
