Tonight, a special programme which features the dangers of taking illegal drugs. An increasing number of young people have been experimenting with drugs since the late eighties and a recent government survey found by the age of 16 nearly half of all teenagers have tried at least one illegal drug. Michael Buerk and Juliet Morris outline the dangers of drugs and present dramatic reconstructions of two families whose lives have been changed by them.

In October 1994, nine-year-old Daniel Handley went missing from his home in Beckton, east London. A paedophile abduction was suspected and the Metropolitan Police launched one of the largest and most publicised searches in its history. Tonight's film tells the story behind the headlines and reconstructs the nine-month investigation which resulted in two successful convictions at the Old Bailey in May this year.
