Noel Edmonds presents the light-hearted television knowledge quiz. Tonight, in the first quarter-final, the "Ready Steadys" and "Whiskey Galore" battle for a semi-final place. Their specialist subjects in On the Box are "Till Death Us Do Part" and "Father Ted".
When John Logie Baird invented the television, he also invented a unique precursor of the video recorder called Phonovision, but was unable to find a way of re-playing the images that he had recorded onto 78 rpm records. Now it is possible to unscramble the information on these discs and watch recordings made in the twenties and thirties.
