In order to save Greg's spinal cord and stop his paralysis becoming permanent his neck vertebrae must be fused together, but this would leave the movement in his head and neck limited for the rest of his life. Now, a doctor in Bristol can offer a radical solution to this problem: a surgically Implanted artificial joint In the neck that strengthens the damaged vertebra but keeps the neck flexible.

Plus, a report from Finland on trials of a unique new development in ship design, a double-ended vessel which is part conventional ship, part ice-breaker and can carve through frozen Arctic waters with ease, thus halving the distance of sea routes between Europe and Japan.
