Pink Floyd - the Story
An introduction to tonight's film of Pink Floyd's recent string of sell-out concerts at Earl's Court, London. This documentary charts the epic rise of one of the world's most successful bands, from its early days as a regular feature on the underground scene in the late 60s, through the heady years of the 70s when theirclassic Dark Side of the Moon seemed assured a permanent place in the album chart, to their current reappraisal as fathers of ambient rock.
The programme includes interviews with the band members and rare archive footage. It explores the effects on the group of the mental disintegration of their legendary songwriter, Syd Barrett , Pink Floyd's subsequent reinvention as masters of concept rock and the struggle for power in the 80s which seemed destined to destroy them.
