Producer Peter Norris promises something special as the powerful police series comes to the end of its run. "The BBC have committed themselves to a third series, he says, before adding with a touch of mystery, "but it will have to be different because of questions left unanswered in this episode and the climactic end to the programme."
Series creator J.C. Wilsher writes the conclusion of this two-part story in which the Complaints Investigation Bureau's Tony Clark is still trying to nail his former boss, John Deakin.
But for Clark the real trouble is Trevor Bull, a victim of a police shooting years earlier. Bull is being put under pressure by both Clark and Deakin and this time he is not taking prisoners.
Sunset Boulevard
Thousands of stage shows are made into films; the reverse process is rarer and more problematical, but Andrew Lloyd Webber has brought Billy Wilder 's great
1950 film Sunset Boulevard to the London stage. This month it also opens in Los Angeles, a situation akin to taking coals to Newcastle according to Alan Benson , producer of this week's Omnibus film on the story of this screen-to-stage adaptation.
"Andrew's decision to open Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles - bypassing Broadway - is quite a risk," says Benson. "LA is a movie-literate community, it's the setting for the original, and comparisons will be made." Lloyd Webber does have two immediate advantages, however. Glenn Close stars as the doomed Norma Desmond, and Billy Wilder has given his blessing to the project. "This man Sir Andrew is on a roll," he said when the show opened in London. "You should put your chips where he does." Series editor Nigel Williams
