To celebrate its 1,000th edition, the series that brings you tomorrow's news today from the worlds of science, medicine, technology and the environment, takes a trip down memory lane. It looks at some of the inventions it has covered over the years - like the breathalyser (1967), the personal computer (1979), the personal stereo (1980) and the phonecard (1983). And not forgetting that uplifting little breakthrough from 1967,
'suspenderless stockings' - in other words, tights!
Back to the future, tonight's programme reports on the giant umbrella protecting Swedish spruce trees from acid rain, and includes news from the clinic offering pioneering treatments to pregnant women. Presented by Kate Bellingham ,
Judith Hann , Howard Stableford and John Diamond.

Fourth programme in the documentary series.
Presumed Guilty. In the wake of the Birmingham Six appeal, Michael Mansfield , QC, a leading defence barrister, reveals exclusively to Inside Story his radical proposals for transforming the criminal justice system.
Mansfield maintains that the scale and frequency of miscarriages shows them to be an integral part of the system and, through the testimonies of people who have suffered injustice, demonstrates that a person's right to be thought innocent until proven guilty has been eroded. Taking the best from the French and American systems, Mansfield constructs an alternative for
Britain that is based on reaffirming this right. Producer Yvette Vanson
