Every year, members of the Uphill Ski Club join the thousands of Britons who head off to the snow slopes of Europe. But to be in this club, you have to be physically or mentally handicapped.
John Craven went with one party to St Johann in Austria, and saw near-miracles happening in just a few days, as disabled children mastered the nursery slopes and joined in all the fun of a demanding sport - one that makes them feel equal to anyone. The Resistance decide that their operations will be inhibited by the general's presence and so decree that he must be blown up. The colonel comes to a similar conclusion, deciding on poison, while Herr Flick is no longer prepared to tolerate the general's interference and elects to terminate the general's appointment with a poisoned dart. The great Belgian detective Hercule Poirot can hardly guess how many enemies the beautiful American heiress, Linnet Ridgeway , has made.
