A series of programmes featuring natural history films from other countries. Bite for Survival
This film from Norway won for its director Charles Patey the 'Best Newcomer Award' at the 1984 Wildscreen Festival.
It is a fascinating study of the mosquito. To get the hatching sequence Patey sat with his eye glued to the camera viewfinder and his finger poised on the button for 15 hours, pausing only to sip thin soup through a straw
- when they did hatch it took just 45 seconds. For this bloodsucking sequence he used his own arm. (R) BBC Bristol
