Weekend Weather
On Christmas Day 1932 King George V spoke on the wireless. 'It was stunning,' remembers Wynford Vaughan-Thomas, 'the voice of the monarch actually entering our own home!' It was also the first royal landmark for the fledgling BBC. Then in 1937, George VI's coronation procession marched across several thousand small screens and 'the magic of television' had arrived. Ever since those first words and pictures the public have wanted more. For over 50 years the BBC and the Palace have developed a very special understanding of mutual dependency, walking a tightrope between access and intrusion, popularity and mystique. Tonight's anniversary programme goes back over those 50 years of BBC coverage of royal occasions, with memories of the grand ceremonial as well as some moments from behind the scenes, including July's wedding of the year.

Rodin 1840-1917
As London sees the first major Rodin exhibition for 16 years, at the Hayward
Gallery, Omnibus looks at the life and work of the 'greatest sculptor since Michelangelo.' With recently discovered archive film of Auguste Rodin himself, and many preparatory plasters and drawings, some of them shown for the first time on television, this documentary looks at the creator of 'The
Kiss', 'The Thinker', 'Balzac', the 'Gates of Hell', and some of the most powerful representations of the human figure and of erotic love. Rodin's sculpture was specially filmed for this programme in two Paris locations, at the Musee Rodin and at his private house at Meudon. The sculptor's life, full of public scandal, passionate affairs, and tireless innovation in his art, is told in Rodin's own words and through the writings of his contemporaries. And, in a unique filmed memoir from the 1950s, a British painter, the late Sir Gerald Kelly , RA remembers his own meetings with the great sculptor.
