Live from the River Exe.
Spend a day with Tony Soper and Roger Lovegrove observing waders and wildfowl on the Exe estuary in south Devon, at the height of the migration season.
This, the first of four broadcasts, is timed for low water when vast stretches of mud are exposed, revealing food for thousands of birds. Oystercatchers and curlews probe the mussel beds; turnstones seek sand-hoppers from beneath pebbles; herons and cormorants fish in the diminished river.

Strategically placed between two rivers (the Dee and the Don) the Granite City has, since the discovery of oil, justifiably earned the title of Europe's offshore oil capital. But long before the advent of oil education was (and still is) the main source of employment in the city. Ian Gall visits the University and meets Sister Clare Ahern, who has spent ten years living with tribal Aborigines in Australia, and then takes a trip around the harbour with one of the pilots, Alistair Esson. The people of Aberdeen gather in St Mary's Roman Catholic Cathedral to sing their Songs of Praise.
