A Journey in Space and Time

How much do ideas, new born 2,500 years ago, shape our lives today? In the last film of this four-part series, the distinguished Greek scholar Sir Kenneth Dover, President of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and Christopher Burstall, producer of the series, continue their journey in the world of the ancient Greeks. They take a close look at Greek art, including marble sculpture in Athens and Olympia, where the great pedimental group of men in conflict, overseen by the god Apollo, adorned the Temple of Zeus, Father of the Greek gods. Ancient Greeks thought hard about the origins of life, order in the universe and the nature of men. Socrates, Democritus and the first historian, Herodotus, looked at their fellow human beings with affection and intense curiosity, and we can feel still their warm and steady gaze.
