with John Pitman
A series of six programmes which follow the fortunes of people who have decided to risk a dramatic change in their lives.
4: A Talent to Succeed
When she was 17, Gill Cumming discovered that she had a talent for singing, but instead of doing anything about it she became a schoolteacher. Now, at the age of 28, after years of trying to pluck up the courage, she has finally decided to give up her job and try to make a career as a singer. Everybody tried to dissuade her because the music business is already such an overcrowded profession. But she was determined to succeed.
This is the story of what happened in the first year as Gill set out with only sufficient savings to last a few months; the ups and the downs of trying to establish herself with the help of a top teacher who has stars like Felicity Lott on his books. She knows it is a big gamble. But, as she says: ' Whatever happens in the future -even if I end up on the dole queue - then at least I will have tried.'
