Public Enemy No 1
In 1957 when unemployment was less than 350,000 the slogan was ' you've never had it so good'. If someone then had predicted that 20 years Later the jobless would total over one-and-a-half million, with no riots or political upheavals, that person would surely have been told not to be so absurd. Now, in 1978, Christopher Brasher looks ahead to 2001 with the help of a specially commissioned survey. How many will be unemployed then? Two ... four ... six million? Will society be split between those in work and those condemned to the dole? If so, will there be violence ... terrorism? Or will we have transformed our attitude to work, cutting the working week and spending more time on the things that interest us?
This programme examines the forces at work in Britain and looks for a cure for one of the most dangerous diseases of western society.

Jeanne Moreau
Self-portrait of an actress
' Filming is a very personal and deep experience. If you want to be true to the film, true to the director, true to the public and true to the character you are playing, you have to dig very deep inside yourself.'
Jeanne Moreau talks to Peter Adam and examines her work and relationship with writers, actors, directors and technicians. Omnibus also shows extracts from Lumière, the first film which Jeanne Moreau has written and directed herself. ' I think the expression directing is misused - it has an aggressive meaning. Directing, for me, is leading people into the special world you want them to enter, and inviting them to share your emotions. Being an actress myself. I have a more intimate relationship with my cast, because most people don't realise that there is a real anxiety or terror when an actor starts a scene for the first time.' With extracts from some of her films.
