It has been a year of triumph and disaster for Britain; the latter is true because for the first time since 1948 we did not win a single medal in the Olympics, the main event of this equestrian year. But there were also other goings-on apart from Montreal. Wembley was filled to capacity every night for the two indoor shows, a controversy raged about the use of drugs in eventing, and EDDIE MACKEN won most things including the Hickstead Derby.
To reflect on the ups-and-downs in Olympic Year, RAYMOND BROOKS -WARD spoke to Tad Coffin, Three-Day Event gold medallist; Alwin Schockemohle , Show Jumping gold medallist; Debbie Johnsey , leading British show jumper; and Lucinda Prior-Palmer , perhaps the unluckiest of all riders this year.
