A portrait of an institution by David Attenborough
One hundred and fifty years ago a group of enthusiastic naturalists founded a society in London to ' introduce new and curious examples of the animal kingdom' and keep them in its zoological gardens in Regent's Park. The public soon gave the collection a name. It became The Zoo, the first of its kind in the world.
