Nature in the raw is closer than you think, because our friendly farm animals still live by jungle law. They're the Big Game of Britain. Bulls can be as formidable as their wild ancestors! Chickens instinctively protect themselves from enemies that no longer threaten them!
But in redesigning wild animals for the barnyard we have altered instincts, and made problems. Newborn calves have difficulty in finding the mother's teats, and Christmas turkeys can't mate!
Nature can be stubborn and sometimes a nuisance.
In looking at the natural history of farm animals, farmer Joe Henson takes an unusual view of the familiar.
