from the Empire Pool, Wembley

Fifteen years ago when British boxers last met the USA in this country we led the Americans 9-0 when the British Heavyweight entered the ring. He knocked out the American in one round to complete the whitewash. His name - Billy Walker. From the American point of view this was not just a complete surprise. It was a disaster. With both Olympic squads on view, a win for any boxer will be a great morale boost. And a win for Great Britain will give the whole team great hopes for that gold medal in Montreal.
