Every year 30 million wild animals are killed for the value of their skins. And millions more are captured for the pet trade, for zoos and safari parks. Trade in animals is one of the most important reasons for species dying out. John Craven investigates how 57 countries have drawn up a convention to protect rare animals, but only a few have taken any action. And Britain isn't one of those. Why?

There is the fox spoken about in the country pubs and at hunt balls: an elegant villain of the countryside. Then there is the real fox: a native, wild animal beautifully adapted to its way of life, whose instinct and intelligence may make it an occasional competitor of ours but whose attributes are those of a fine beast of prey.
In this film Eric Ashby, who has been filming wild foxes for 40 years, brings his career as a wild-life film-maker to a climax. Four years' work went into this one 25-minute film.

In this first programme of a new weekly series, Fyfe Robertson looks over his shoulder at his life with the motorcar and recalls some nostalgic memories of his chequered life on four wheels.
' Have you ever wondered what life would be like without all the cars that line our suburban streets? I know, because I grew up through the innocent infancy of the car, and we've been together, car and I, for more than half a century.'
