The great Dorothy Hyman's British record for the 200m has stood since 1963. She clocked 23.2secs.

Russia's Ludmilla Bragina has the best performance this year. Her 4min 6.9secs was a world record.

All America expects this gold to go to Steve Prefontaine, a tough and talented 21-year-old who looks like a running Robert Redford.
