Whales, lions, monkeys, elephants; a million flamingos; grizzly bears fishing; driver ants on the rampage; kingfishers, hippos and crocodiles underwater; the largest herd of animals in existence - two and a half million fur seals; humming birds in ultra-slow motion; the amazing angler fish in action; beautiful plankton, cheetahs and birds of paradise. Remarkable pictures of dragons on land and in the sea, penguins by the thousand, the incredible technique of the black heron and intimate pictures of chimpanzees in the wild.

Written and presented by Ludovic Kennedy
Twenty-eight years ago, on St Stephen's Day - Sunday 26 December 1943 - the most successful warship in the German Navy was sunk, off the North Cape of Norway, by the guns and torpedoes of the British Fleet. So ended a career during which the German battlecruiser had sunk an aircraft carrier, an armed merchant cruiser, two destroyers and well over 100,000 tons of merchant shipping.
Tonight Ludovic Kennedy (whose father commanded HMS Rawalpindi, the first ship sunk by the Scharnhorst) tells the story of the battlecruiser's four years of war. The programme includes participants in both navies and unique action film shot at the time.
