Feature films selected for the occasion - at home with the family - this week starring Peter Lind Hayes, Mary Healy, Tommy Rettig, Hans Conried

A small boy dreams his piano teacher is holding 500 boys captive in an enchanted castle and forcing them to practise every day.
Produced by Stanley Kramer and based on a children's story by Dr Seuss, this must be one of the most unusual musicals ever made in Hollywood.
After making a name for himself as a young producer of difficult subjects - the first ones in collaboration with Carl Foreman on classics like The Men, Home of the Brave and High Noon - Kramer made a whole series of off-beat films including The 5,000 Fingers of Dr T.

with Cliff Michelmore
Having looked at a canal cruising holiday in France, Holiday 70 this week investigates a domestic alternative. We take a leisurely trip in North Wales-from the Shropshire Union Canal, along the Llangollen Canal, which runs for 46 miles through some magnificent scenery, ending near the famous Horseshoe Falls.
Every Mediterranean civilisation of the last 3,000 years has helped to shape the culture of Tunisia. Now the tourists are making their mark. But can Tunisia offer something different from the usual picture-postcard cliches of North Africa? Holiday 70 finds out.

A new wildlife film series

The starling is the commonest and most successful bird in the world. Why is it so numerous? What is the secret of its success? Of what use is its gift for vocal mimicry? Is it the farmer's friend or foe? Why does it spray its feathers with formic acid? Why does it commute to big cities for the night? What is the purpose of its 'sunset spectacular,' when three million birds give the most impressive exhibition of aerobatics that can be seen in the whole world of birds?
This film was Britain's short film entry for the recent Moscow Film Festival.

by Malcolm Muggeridge

The task Christ knew He must undertake was the most stupendous of all - no less than to make known the ways of God. In that sense He was God...
A dialogue with the devil, choosing the disciples, the Sermon on the Mount, the miracles - the film describes the main part of Christ's life, up to the final entry into Jerusalem 'that killest the prophets.'

by Fred Burnley and Barbara Barkham
The award-winning film about F. Scott Fitzgerald
Starring Edward Woodward, Lelia Goldoni

Scott Fitzgerald was the darling and the genius of the Jazz Age - and died at 44 in obscure poverty in Hollywood in 1940. Author of The Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night, his literary success began at the top and plummeted downwards through his lifetime. This dramatised film which contributed to Fred Burnley's and Edward Woodward's SFTA awards, authentically recreates his moving and tragic marriage to Zelda, her lapse into madness, and his crack-up - the last unhappy years of alcoholism. Always curiously prophetic about his own fate, Fitzgerald examines his life entirely in his own words.
