Charles Peguy (1873-1914) was among the most original and profound religious writers of his time. In his most important work, the poetic drama Le Mystère de la Charité de Jeanne d'Arc, he explores not only the history of the warrior saint but the nature of Christian belief and the operation of grace and the supernatural on the human soul and human destiny. The Meditation is one speech from the play.
