PART 1
A series of seven talks
5—Quantity and Quality in School Design
by Michael Smith
More technical and planning experiments have taken place in recent school building than in most other fields of British architecture; but, while the quality and fitness of schools have been greatly improved, numbers have barely kept pace with demand.
Michael Smith, who has been concerned with school design for several local authorities and for the Ministry1 of Education, considers why some of the possible solutions to this problem are not being more widely adopted.
First of two talks by Donald F. Thomson
Lecturer in Anthropology,
University of Melbourne
Dr. Thomson describes how, having spent several years in their territory pacifying the Arnhem Landers of North Australia, he was sent back to the region in 1942 to undermine Japanese influence among the aborigines and to train a unit of them for guerrilla fighting in the event of an invasion of Australia.
Second talk: October 8
played by Ludvig Nielsen
