Echo Sounding and Fishing Research by D. H. Cushing , D.Phil. of the Fisheries Laboratory, Lowestoft
Echo sounding was introduced to give the navigator a continuous picture of the hills and dales in the sea bottom over which he was passing. Dr. Cushing describes its use in finding shoals of fish and, more recently still, in the investigation of plankton, the microscopic plants and animals that are the basis of life in the sea.
