Another performance: tomorrow, 8.0 The Dutch composer Matthiis Vermeulen was born at Helmond in 1888. From 1909 to 1920 he lived in Amsterdam and worked as a music critic, championing modem French composers and fighting the prevailing German influence. Later he settled in Paris, returning to Holland in 1946. His works, many of which are unusual in their design, include five symphonies, two cello sonatas, a string trio, and a number of songs. H.R.
