In this talk he reflects on the unique value of the desert fighting as a training and a test for the armies that later were to join in the liberation of Europe. Two recent publications-The Rommel Papers and Crisis in the Desert, a volume of the Sourh African War History—have thrown new light on these campaigns.
General Horrocks is military correspondent of The Sunday Times.
