Three programmes of French organ music.
This programme consists of two hymns (for alternating plainchant and organ) separated by nearly a century. Jean Titelouze, who lived from 1563 to 1633, was canon and organist of Rouen Cathedral; his organ works were published in 1623 under the title ' Hymnes pour toucher sur l'orgue, avec les fugues et recherches sur leur plainchant.' Nicolas de Gngny, organist of Rheims Cathedral at the end of the seventeenth century, died in 1703 at the early age of thirty-two; his ' Pieces d'orgue ' (of which Bach thought highly enough to make a copy) appeared after his death, in 1711.
