Touchstone: Wast ever at the Court, shepherd ?
Corin: No, truly.
Touchstone: Then thou art damned.
This quotation from As You Like It' stands as a preface to Sir Desmond MacCarthy's book on the Court Theatre, published in 1907. He had followed closely the performances there under the Vedrenne-Barker management, and in the passages from his book which Julian Hall reads in this programme he analyses the new principles of dramatic production which that management so successfully applied. Three plays ' from the Court Theatre ' are to be broadcast during the next three weeks.
