F. H. Grisewood
Here is a broadcast that will delipht all lovers of 'Our Bill', F. H. Grisewood 's delightful Cotswold character. Grisewood read ' The Celestial Gardener ' on Good Friday last year, and this ' repeat' is the result of many requests.
The original of ' Our Bill ' died over a year ago, and in this story Grisewood tells of how the old man, rather awe-struck by the sight of heaven, decided to make himself useful by making a garden round the pearly gates, and rendering, as it were, the whole place more homely and friendly for incoming souls.

Sela Trau (violoncello)
Louis Kentner (pianoforte)
Whereas Schubert was a pioneer of the romantic movement as a song composer, even from the early part of his career when he wrote the ' Erlking it was not until the last three or four years of his life that he began to apply a romantic technique, particularly as regards harmony, to classical instrumental forms ; for example, in the Piano Trios in B flat and E flat, composed in 1827 for the Bocklet-Schuppanzigh Linke Trio, with which Schubert at that time was closely associated. Both works are extremely romantic in conception.

Sonata for violin and pianoforte in G, Op. 78
1 Vivace ma non troppo. 2 Adagio. 3 Allegro molto moderato played by Arthur Catterall (violin) R. J. Forbes (pianoforte)
Brahms's Violin Sonata in G was the first cf his three sonatas for violin and piano. Composed during the summer months of 1878-9 while Brahms was on holiday at Portsohach, it is a fine work, particularly as regards the writing for the violin, v. hich has the predominant part.
' The whole work ', says Dr. Karl
Geiringer in his study of the life and work of Brahms. reflects the a :mosphere of the beautiful Carinthian holiday resort where it was created. It is a composition full of restrained sweetness and that yearnina tenderness which-as so often in Brahms-seems to smile through tears.'
