E. A. Bunyard is chairman of the Royal Horticultural Society's Fruit and Vegetable Committee, and is a leading authority on the subject, on which he has written several standard books. Anthony Hope 's immortal novel set in romantic Ruritania may well claim to be the father of all those books that have set out to portray the court life, intrigue, romance, plot, and counterplot of life in small Central European countries. ' Ruritanian ' has indeed become a house-hold word synonymous with romantic pomp and thrones three a penny.
In Jack Inglis 's radio version, which is extremely close to the original, you will hear today how, at the end of the nineteenth century, Rudolf Rassendyll , a young Englishman of the ancient family of Burlesdon, came to visit Ruritania, and how, in this small country in the south-east corner of Europe, strange events began to befall him.

John Hilton
John Hilton began talking about 'This and That' in October, 1934, and to the pleasure of listeners went on doing so until the summer of 1936, when he began a series of talks to the unemployed under the title of ' This Way Out', which made him one of the most appreciated broadcasters in the country.
' This and That' was resumed in 1937, and today listeners are to hear the first of thirteen talks going on till June, in which he will deal with anything that strikes him as odd or exciting, comical or puzzling, in the events of the week. '
A few' months ago he published a collection of his earlier broadcast talks under the title 'This and That', and early next autumn he is publishing a second and perhaps a third volume.
Hilton has been Professor of Industrial Relations at Cambridge since 1931, but perhaps he is even prouder of his Chairmanship of the Advisory Committee of Fellowship House-a club that he started with others for the unemployed at Cambridge.

Most of Schubert's piano duets were composed for his friends, who usually played them with the composer as partner. Many of these pieces were written ' just for the fun of the thing '. This is particularly true of those on a smaller scale, such as the marches and polonaises. With few exceptions, these are happy and care-free compositions, breathing the atmosphere of the gay circles in which the composer moved.
A more serious note is struck in the larger works, such as the F major Overture (1819) 'written in Josef Hiittenbrenner 's room at the City Hospital in the inside of three hours and dinner missed in consequence ', as Schubert's inscription on the piece tells us.

An appeal on behalf of THE GREY CROSS CAMPAIGN OF THE ROYAL BATH HOSPITAL, HARROGATE by the Earl of HAREWOOD, K.G., G.C.V.O.
The Grey Cross Campaign was inaugurated by the Royal Bath Hospital on May 14, 1938. Its object is to raise £70,000 for building extension, development of facilities, and research into causation of rheumatic diseases. The Royal Bath Hospital, which was founded in 1824 for the relief of poor persons from all parts of the British Isles, is a national institution, supported by voluntary contributions, and specialises in the treatment of rheumatic and kindred diseases. The hospital was rebuilt in 1888, and this appeal is the first to be made since that time. Five years ago, in conjunction with Leeds University, a Research Department was established, and to facilitate research it is imperative that the present wards be modernised and new wards built. Accommodation for bed cases becomes more and more urgently essential for the treatment of the more acute forms of rheumatic disease.
