' Two to Seven '
W. E. Williams
This evening's broadcast, concentrating as it does on the children aged from two to seven, touches upon an aspect of education to which an ever-growing importance is attached.
It has been said : ' Give me a child for the first seven years, and you may do what you like with him afterwards.' This axiom is becoming an integral part of modern education, though there is still considerable room for expansion in the realm of nursery schools.
An interested mother will be in the studio to question W. E. Williams on nursery schools and infant departments, and on the. type of work that they are doing.

Havergal Brian 's ' Doctor Merryheart' overture was composed in 1911-12 and first performed at Birmingham in January, 1913, under Julius Harrison ; later in the same year Wood performed it in London at a Promenade Concert.
In a prefatory note to the score, the composer describes Doctor Merryheart as ' a genial astronomer who advanced the strange theory that the universe is part of a vast diatonic scale, with its tonic in the centre of the Milky Way. It was difficult to believe that he wished to be taken seriously, for his deep reflections on the mystery of the universe were expressed to the accompaniment of a continuous series of smiles '.
At the very beginning is heard
Merryheart's whimsical whistle which provides the material for a series of mood pictures and dreams, amorous, heroic, and playful in turn.
