' A Man of the Renaissance '
A dramatic interlude by HUGH Ross WILLIAMSON
' My father began to teach me to play upon the flute, and to sing by note..... At that time he made the most curious organs with pipes of wood, the finest and best harpsichords that were to be seen in those days, and most beautiful and excellent viols, lutes, and harps. He worked admirably in ivory and was the first artist of this time in that line. Lorenzo de' Medici and Piero, his son, were very much his friends.'
The man who wrote this, Benvenuto Cellini, was one of the most famous craftsmen of all time, and a robust and vital personality. He lived and worked in Florence in the sixteenth century, and knew many of the famous men of his time.
Listeners are to hear something about them and the wonderful age in which he lived.

H. MUNRO Fox , F.R.S.
(From Midland)
Snakes, cats, and dogs frighten their enemies by hissing or growling. Some snakes, toads, and bees use poison for defence. Skunks defend themselves by a horrible smell. Many animals flee when attacked, but some remain motionless as if dead; beetles and crabs do this. Hermit crabs hide their soft tails in shells. The octopus squirts out a cloud of ink into the water. To escape from enemies the lizard throws off its tail, the crab its legs, and the starfish its arms, and then they grow these parts again. This is the outline of Munro Fox 's talk today.

(First performance)
In this recital, Lydia Stace is to give the first performance of Holbrooke's Fantasie Sonata, which the composer has dedicated to her. It is one of his most recent works and, like many of Holbrooke's other compositions, has been inspired by the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. The Sonata is in one movement and is descriptive of Poe's ' The Man of the Crowd '. Its various sections are based on the following extracts:
1. Now and then, alas, the conscience of man takes up a burden so heavy ... that it can be thrown down only into the grave.
2. There were many individuals of dashing appearance. They wore every variety of dress.
3. Descending in the scale of what is termed gentility, I found darker and deeper themes for speculation.
4. For some time he followed closely a party of roisterers.
5. ' This old man '-I I said— ' is the type and the genius of deep crime.' He is the ' man of the crowd '. He refuses to be alone.

' Egg Marketing'
G. Scott Robertson , D.Sc., and Anthony Hurd
As yet we have no Egg Marketing Scheme in this country. The Government, however, are now considering the matter in connection with the recent Report of the Commission on Poultry Diseases. Northern Ireland has a scheme which has been decidedly successful, so this evening Anthony Hurd has brought back to the microphone Dr. Scott Robertson, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture in Northern Ireland, to discuss Ulster's method.
