and THE FESTIVAL OF YOUTH at the Empire Stadium, Wembley
Between 2.0 and 5.15 there will be commentaries on three outstanding events today. The actual timings are uncertain, especially with regard to Henley. But at 2.0 there will be an announcement and listeners will then know exactly when the particular events they are interested in are likely to be broadcast.
Youth at Wembley
There will be ten thousand performers in the Festival of Youth at Wembley in aid of King George's Jubilee Trust. Women and girls, men and boys, will be played into position in the arena by the massed bands of the Brigade of Guards. Fanfares will announce the arrival of Their Majesties, which will be followed by the National Anthem. The performers will march past and then the various items will be given -physical training, maypole dancing, folk dancing, and the special feature, 'The Playing Fields of the Future '.
Wimbledon
It is hoped to include the Finals of the Ladies' Singles, the Men's Doubles, and the Mixed Doubles, and commentaries will be given by Colonel R. H. Brand and Captain H. B. T. Wakelam for the tenth year in succession. But this year, in addition, another voice will be heard, that of F. H. Grisewood.
Henley
The commentators - John Snagge , and various famous rowing men whom he will call on at Henley-will be in a special box near the winning-post. They will look down the course, with Phyllis Court on their left and the Stewards' Enclosure on their right, and see a ribbon of water lined by booms, with punts moored to them. There is only one Henley-minstrels, gaiety, Leander ties. Boards are fixed at quarter-mile intervals, which show the positions of the boats as they pass. Thus the commentators will be able to tell listeners about the progress of each race. It is hoped to include the Finals of the Grand Challenge Cup and the Diamond Sculls.
The National programme may be broken into by commentaries from Wimbledon by Colonel R. H. Brand and Captain H. B. T. Wakelam from 5.15 to 6.0
