It is hoped that this discussion between C. H. Middleton and F. H. Grisewood will be the first of a monthly series, and will introduce to listeners not only the problems of a struggling amateur gardener, but two popular microphone personalities in discussion together.
Listeners may remember that
Grisewood used to live in the Cotswolds ; ;. that he had a ready-made garden there to play with, and did so to his heart's content, with the help of ' Our Bill'. '. But he now lives in Surrey, under the Hog's Back, where he has three acres of land, and his problem is to make a garden out of a field.
He will ask Middleton's advice on the kind of problems that arise-digging, soil, fertilisers, that age-old question of a lawn, bulbs, roses, and so on. Would he had ' Our Bill ' to help him! Who knows? - he may. The Cotswolds aren't so far from
Surrey, after all.

OF VENICE' by William Shakespeare
Ibsen, Pirandello, Galsworthy, Shakespeare - in plays by each, Ernest Milton has won laurels, hut to Shakespeare he has returned again and again. As a boy, he saw As You Like It performed in the open air, in the Greek Theatre at the University of California, and it made him resolve to go on the stage. In his twenties he played in the Trial scene from The Merchant of Venice to the Portia of Ellen Terry , and it was but a prelude to a lifetime's association with the play. He has appeared as Shylock at the Old Vie in 1918 ; with the Old Vic Company at the Theatre du Pare, Brussels, in 1921 ; in Egypt, with Robert Aitken , in 1927 ; at the Old Vic in 1928 ; and under his own management at the St. James's Theatre in 1932. This afternoon he is to broadcast in the part which he knows so well, and listeners who are interested to read how he intends to play it on the air, can do so by turning to his article on page 9.

Anthony Bernard , who has been Director of Music at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-on-Avon, since 1932, gave many concerts at Savoy Hill during the early days of broadcasting with his London Chamber Orchestra, which he founded in 1921. He studied with Leonard Borwick , John Ireland, and Sir Granville Bantock , and was in charge or the orchestral and conducting classes at the Royal College of Music in 1924-25. He was also associated with the British National Opera Company's season of 1924-25.

SOUTHWARK by Christopher Stone ,D.S.O.,M.C.
The Royal Eye Hospital, which is the only one of its kind in South London, was established eighty years ago, and has served over a million poor people.
The treatment of some 6,000 new cases annually of children suffering from external eye disease is handicapped by the absence'of appropriate In-Patient accommodation to supplement the work in the OutPatients' Department.
The new Hospital, which will be the finest of its kind in the Empire, will provide not only a larger OutPatients' Department, but also Children's Wards.
The site of the Old Surrey Theatre has been purchased, and it is hoped that construction on the new building will begin this year.
