5a—' Liberty '
STEPHEN KING-HALL
In discussing in his talk this morning the question of liberty in the modern world, Commander King-Hall will point out to listeners that they have liberty to write to him and tell him they disagree with everything he says. But as he will have liberty to answer them, they are hardly likely to get the best of it,
He is to discuss what liberty, which we all value so much, exactly is and means-liberty which in this country we take for granted. Is it in danger ot disappearing?.
There is liberty of thought, liberty of speech, liberty of combination. -He will discuss not only the liberty of the individual, but the liberty of the community-a team in which everyone's interests, desires, and liberties must be considered.

' The opening allegro of Cundell's quartet, an interesting work of moderate difficulty, is based on a rhythmic first subject and episodes of a less important character ', writes W. W. Cobbett in his invaluable ' Cyclopedic Survey of Chamber Music '. ' The second movement is a combination of adagio and scherzo..... The finale consists of a theme with variations ; these are free in style and possess much contrast. There is reference in some of them to the earlier movements of the quartet.'

The Question at Issue
Sir Alan Anderson , G.B.E.
Last week Sir Alan Anderson summed up the eight talks that have been given in this series, and tonight he is to speak of the future of shipping. He is to deal with the vital question : What can and ought our nation to do to restore the trade by which not only our ships, but all of us live ?

Joaquin Turina happens to be known in this country by his less personal works, co!ourful, thoroughly Spanish pieces. Actually, his chief interest is in chamber music, to which he has devoted more attention than any other Spanish composer of note.
This Trio is the sixth of his large-scale chamber works and is an admirable example of his skill in reconciling the Spanish idiom with the Franck-d'Indy point of view. It won a prize in a National Competition in 1926 and was played at the Frankfort International Chamber Music Festival the year after
