Psalm 121 from Canterbury Cathedral
Two years ago a Naval Service opened the Canterbury Festival ; last year a Military one (the Buffs) ; this afternoon an Aviation Service dedicated to the Royal Air Force and to all engaged in civilian flying is to open the Festival, and, like the others, is to be broadcast.
The Cathedral bells will be heard as the broadcast begins, and there is to be an innovation in the presence of a commentator inside the Cathedral who at a suitable moment will describe the scene. After the striking of six bells on the ship's bell of H.M.S. Canterbury, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishops, accompanied by the Dean and Chapter, will proceed through the choir screen to their places in the nave while the choir sing Psalm 122, and will leave the Cathedral during the singing of Psalm 121. The offerings of the congregation will be given to the R.A.F. Benevolent Fund, which includes all branches of aviation

by PAUL LEYSSAC from his own translation of ' The Eagle's Nest', by Bjornson, and two stories by Hans Andersen : The Darning Needle ' and 'It's Perfectly True'
As a boy, Paul Leyssac , actor, author, lecturer, and broadcaster (listeners will remember his talk on Hans Andersen last summer) loved Hans Andersen 's fairy tales. His Danish mother used to read them to him as nobody else could, for she had heard them told by Hans Andersen himself.
Grown to manhood, Leyssac translated many of these stories and fairy tales into French. In Paris he recited them at concerts and ' at homes '. They attracted attention, and his translations were published in 1928. He also made a special English version which he uses in all his readings and lectures.
It is of interest that Leyssac is to read his own translations of two of Hans Andersen 's stories tonight.
