Leader, J. MOULAND BEGBIE
Conductor, GUY WARRACK
Jaromir Weinberger is the composer of the opera Schwanda the Bagpiper, which has been so extraordinarily successful. It has been presented in the opera houses of practically every musical country in the world, the libretto having been translated into fourteen languages.
The composer was born in 1896, in Prague, and had the advantage of studying with Max Reger in Leipzig. In 1922, he spent a short time in the United States as professor of composition at the Conservatorium of Ithica. The chief characteristics of his music consist of an engaging gift of melody, a piquant sense of harmony, and a modern conception of counterpoint.

An appeal on behalf of the WEST CORNWALL HOSPITAL, PENZANCE, by the Right Hon. WALTER RUNCIMAN ,
D.C.L., LL.D., M.P. The West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance, is in need of £ 20,000 to carry out , urgent extensions, for the present accommodation is quite inadequate to cope with the growing demands, and ' there is a long waiting list for beds. ' It serves not only its own local people, ' but also the large visiting population ' from every county in England.
One of Cornwall's contributions to the national well-being is to provide a playground for thousands of visitors. The West Cornwall Hospital. appeals for a thank-offering, so that it may be enabled to open its doors to all who need its help.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged, and should be addressed to [address removed]

A programme of Hungarian folk songs and folk music from Budapest
This relay is on the occasion of a popular peasant festival when men,, women and children come from all over the country, wearing their native costumes, to display their local dances and games. The Hungarian peasants are not as rich as they were before the war, and there was some danger that their traditional art would be lost. It was to preserve this that the Hungarian ' Bouquet de Perles ' Association was formed which arranges for groups of peasants to meet on certain Hungarian holidays in different parts of the country. The present festival lasts tor two days and is held in the city of Budapest. The name Bouquet de Perles', by the way, comes from the custom in certain country districts for the young men to wear in their hats a posy made of glass beads.
