'Bouquet of Beads'

on National Programme Daventry

View in Radio Times

A programme of Hungarian folk songs and folk music from Budapest
This relay is on the occasion of a popular peasant festival when men,, women and children come from all over the country, wearing their native costumes, to display their local dances and games. The Hungarian peasants are not as rich as they were before the war, and there was some danger that their traditional art would be lost. It was to preserve this that the Hungarian ' Bouquet de Perles ' Association was formed which arranges for groups of peasants to meet on certain Hungarian holidays in different parts of the country. The present festival lasts tor two days and is held in the city of Budapest. The name Bouquet de Perles', by the way, comes from the custom in certain country districts for the young men to wear in their hats a posy made of glass beads.
