7— The New World'
RHODA POWER
' ... I left the city of Granada on the 12th day of May, in the same year of 1492, being Saturday, and came to the town of Palos which is a seaport: where I equipped three vessels well suited for such service : and departed from that port well supplied with provisions and with many sailors.....'
This is a translation of part of a letter written by Christopher Columbus to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain when he set out to cross the Atlantic.
Todiy listeners will hear of his discovery of a ' new world ' and what this was to mean to the ' old world'.

A Jewish Revue
Devised by JOSEPH G. HALTER
Cast includes
MONA LEE , EUGENIE HARRIS , RYINKA FELCZER, HENRI MONDI, AL BURNETT and THE JEWISH REVUE CHORUS and THE BBC VARIETY ORCHESTRA
Conducted by JOSEPH G. HALTER
Here is a special feature—music, artists, chorus all Jewish ; many of the words in Yiddish. But in case those who do not understand Yiddish might hesitate to tune in, let it be said that everything in Yiddish will be explained by the compere, and everything will be understood.
The music is of all kinds-the more serious traditional melodies will be contrasted with humour. There will be a medley of Jewish folk songs sung in the language of the country-Russia, Rumania, Poland, and so on, and these will be sung by a Hebrew girl, Ryinka Felczer , who has broadcast with the Cafe Colette. A new tenor, Henri Mondi , is to make his radio debut. Much of the music has been composed by Joseph G. Halter , who has devised the programme.
A Jewish revue chorus has been specially got together. The title Almonds and Raisins has been chosen as it is the name of a well-known traditional Jewish melody.
