MARJORIE PARRY (soprano)
The NEW ENGLISH STRING QUARTET :
Winifred Small (violin); Eveline Thompson (violin); Winifred Stiies
(viola); Florence Hooton (violoncello)
' The opening allegro of Cundell's quartet, an interesting work of moderate difficulty, is based on a rhythmic first subject and episodes of a less important character ', writes W. W. Cobbett in his invaluable ' Cyclopedic Survey of Chamber Music '. ' The second movement is a combination of adagio and scherzo..... The finale consists of a theme with variations ; these are free in style and possess much contrast. There is reference in some of them to the earlier movements of the quartet.'
