The Adolph Hallis Quintet consists of five instrumentalists well known in other spheres of music. Lionel Falkman , who is popular with listeners for his Apache Band, leads; the second violin is Editha Braham , formerly a member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra ; Helen Jackson , principal viola of the British Women's Symphony Orchestra, plays the viola ; the 'cellist is George Roth , who is a member of the London Philharmonic ; and Adolph Hallis , a well-known music teacher and a soloist from the earliest days of broadcasting, is the pianist.
The Quintet concentrates on special orchestrations-most of them are devised by Adolph Hallis himself-of light music that has been unjustly neglected.

(Chancellor of the Exchequer)
Mr. Neville Chamberlain has been Chancellor of the Exchequer for the National Government since 1931. Today, therefore, he will be delivering his fifth Budget speech. And this evening he comes to the microphone to tell listeners concisely all about his plans for collecting and spending the taxpayers' money during the next twelve months.
From 1918 to 1929 Mr. Chamberlain was M.P. for the Ladywood Division of Birmingham. Since 1929, however, he has represented the Edgbaston Division. He was Chancellor of the Exchequer as far back as 1923 ; and subsequently he has filled the important posts of Post-master-General and Minister of Health.

Sea Communications—2
Port to Port
Sir RICHARD HOLT
Tonight, in the second talk in this series, Sir Richard Holt , of the famous shipping line that bears his name, is to discuss the two principal types of port : those with enclosed docks, and those with open wharves or piers. He will explain how certain facilities must be given for loading and unloading and so forth in order that regular services can be run to time. And there is no end to the essentials a large port must have : rainproof sheds alongside the ship, cranes, cold storage rooms, tanks into which mineral oils can be pumped from the vessel, engineering shops, departments to supply rope, crockery, fresh water, fuel.
He will discuss the technique of stowing and the system of pilotage. In short, he will tell listeners some of the numberless things that are done to make shipping safe and to study the interests of those who entrust their cargo to the shipowners for passage and delivery to other lands.
