An Appeal on behalf of St. Martin's Christmas Fund, by the Rev. Pat McCormick

The Christmas Fund, for which ' Pat' McCormick is to appeal tonight, enables him to send a Christmas present to people all over the country who have seen better days and who have been recommended by those who know their circumstances. Apart from the cost of printing, the sending of receipts, and the despatch of acknowledgments, the Fund has no office expenses, as all the clerical work is done for Mr. McCormick by voluntary workers.

Until recently the repertoire of the brass band consisted, for the most part, of music of poor quality, but of late years, owing to the enterprise of such bands as the Crystal Palace Band and Callender's Band, composers have been encouraged not only to write original works, but to make artistic transcriptions of fine music, as instanced by the present programme.
The BBC has done much to further the interests of the brass band and it is its intention to do more in the future to enable listeners to hear the best bands in programmes consisting of original works and first rate transcriptions of rarely heard music.
