CICELY HAMILTON
In this entertaining series actual broadcast talks that have been given by women abroad are to be read at the microphone. They will, of course, be translated, but the translations will be literal, and they will therefore have a charm and personality and humour all their own.
Listeners will hear advice given by women to women in possibly Germany, Yugoslavia, Czecho-slovakia, Poland, and other countries. They may hear, for instance, advice such as how to dress at an Italian wedding, and if customs vary in different countries in Europe, listeners will find that both women and children are very much the same, and the trials and humours of life no different than they are this side of the Channel.
The talks are to be introduced and commented on by Miss Cicely Hamilton , the well-known author, playwright, and actress, who has just returned from abroad.

The Social Work of the League
Sir ARTHUR SALTER, K.C.B., C.B.
This third talk deals with the large variety of activities that affect the social life of members of the League. There are, for example, organisations dealing with economics and finance, communications and transit, health, intellectual co-operation, the protection and welfare of children and young persons, traffic in opium and other dangerous drugs, and slavery. All these organizations have done invaluable work during the last decade. The health organisation, for instance, has done a great deal to control the spread of infectious diseases. In addition to this, there is the highly important work of the International Labour Office.
Sir Arthur Salter has been very intimately connected with the work of the League of Nations ever since it started. From 1920-22 he was General Secretary of the Reparation Commission, and from 1922â30, Director of the Economic and Finance Section.
by HELMI LIUKKONEN (soprano)
Madame Liukkonen , who made her first appearance last night in the Sibelius concert at the Promenades, here introduces a programme of compositions by her Finnish countrymen.
Erkki Melartin , one of the most prominent Finnish composers after Sibelius, was born in 1875. Among his numerous compositions are five symphonies and an opera.
Lauri Ikonen was born in 1888 and studied in Berlin under Paul Juon.
Yrjo Kilpinen is mainly a song composer with a rapidly rising reputation. He was born in 1892. Armas Jarnefelt, bom in 1869, is the composer of some very popular orchestral pieces and scarcely needs an introduction to listeners.
Tovio Kuula , who died a tragic death at the age of thirty-five in the Finnish War of Independence in 1918, gave promise of being one of the most characteristic of Finnish composers. His music, of which there is, unfortunately, only too little, was richly coloured with the folk-music of his country.
