Francois Clement Théodore Dubois was born in 1837 and died in Paris only ten years ago. He was a composer of note in his day, wrote a number of operas, a good deal of church music and music for the organ. He showed his brilliance early and gained the Prix de Rome in 1861. He held a number of important positions in Paris, succeeding Saint-Saens as organist at the Madeleine, was later elected to the Institut in place of Gounod, and subsequently became head of the Paris Conservatoire.

Today's presentation of Shakespeare is unique in that it is the first broadcast of the brilliant company of West End actors now appearing at the Open Air Theatre, London's popular summer theatre in Regent's Park. Seldom have listeners a chance of hearing on the air such famous voices as those of Sir Nigel Playfair and John Drinkwater. One can say with truth that every member of the cast is an actor of distinction.

Of the women, Anna Neagle made a big hit in Stand Up and Sing at the London Hippodrome three years ago, and is a star of the British films; Iris Hoey, who is never without charm, is an actress of long experience in every type of play from Shakespeare to pantomime; and Margaretta Scott was under Sydney Carroll's management in The Streets of London at the Ambassador's in the Christmas season of 1932. She remained with him for the first season of the Open Air Theatre last year, and is again with him there this summer. She is featured in 'People You Hear' on page 6.

For many years the Vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields has broadcast an appeal for funds to assist those who otherwise would not have a holiday. The response has always been most generous.
The Fund is not confined to the parishioners of St. Martin's, but is distributed all over the kingdom by the Vicar through friends of his who know personally those who are being helped. The many letters received show the happiness that has been given the recipients, and how grateful they are to all who have sent donations.
No charges are deducted from the Fund for its administration, for they are paid from another source, so that every penny that is sent goes direct to the purpose for which it was intended. Voluntary workers come daily to the offices of St. Martin to attend to the correspondence, and every gift is sent out personally by the Vicar.
