In ancient times sugar was so scarce that it was thought to have magical qualities. Even a few generations ago it was considered an exciting, but entirely unnecessary luxury. Today sugar is an important basic food and a vital Industry on which many countries are almost wholly dependent. Tonight's programme discusses the part that sugar has played in the history of the Colonies, the problems bound up in world sugar production and distribution, and the immense organisation and effort involved in securing for the housewife a regular supply of the food she tends to take for granted
