A programme for children under five
Nursery rhymes, stories, and music
All our stories this week are ' repeats ' and they are all by Jean Sutcliffe. Today's story is ' The Fairy,' and the remainder of the week will be devoted to four tales about Jacko the monkey, which are constantly in demand by our young audience. There were two Jacko stories to begin with; the first told of Jacko's arrival at Mrs. Robb's, and the second, of the Franks he played with her knitting wool. mmediately came the requests, ' Please tell us more about Jacko I So another story had to be written-and now the total stands at four. The lovable little creature, who is so like themselves in both his naughtiness and his need for affection, touches our under-fives nearly. They like the people in their stories to be naughty sometimes—provided, of course, that the naughtiness is met with understanding, and all comes right in the end-for it gives them an opportunity to work off a little of their own, as it were, by proxy. These Jacko tales, by the way, are based on truth. Jacko belonged to Jean Sutcliffe 's grandfather, and these are some of the stories she heard about him in her childhood. Elizabeth A. Taylor
