A. G. Street , novelist and farmer, and Graham Hutton , economist, have both been frequent members of the Any Questions? teams.
George Darling is the Member of Parliament (Labour) for the Hillsborough Division of Sheffield. A former railway worker, he started work at the age of fourteen, and became a national figure in the Labour Youth Movement. In 1930 he was in charge of the Research Department of the C.W.S. At the outbreak of war he joined the BBC reporting team and was the Industrial Correspondent of the Corporation until 1948.
Alfred Edwards , born in Middlesbrough, also entered industry as a boy. He is now director of an old-established iron-works and is connected with many other enterprises. He was formerly Member of Parliament (Labour) for East Middlesbrough, but owing to his opposition to the Iron and Steel Act he was expelled from the Labour Party and later joined the Conservative Party. He contested Middlesbrough East as a Conservative at the last election, and was defeated.
