Today ends the Brighton International Dance Festival being held in the Aquarium Ballroom, to the music of Les Hilsden and his Orchestra. The highlight of the Festival is the International Professional Exhibition Match between Australia and England. The closing stages are described by Wynford Vaughan Thomas.

The Dunmow Flitch Trials took place earlier today when married couples claiming to live in perfect harmony were tried before a special court. Successful claimants received a gammon (not a flitch) of bacon. The gammons were a gift from New Zealand. Henry Riddell describes this ancient ceremony. illustrated by recordings made at the Trials.
Today is the last day of a week's visit by Billy Smart's Circus to Shortwood Common. Staines. Brian Johnston is present at the ringside to describe the scene.
